Battle Into the Dark: Marching Band Composition
Production Notes
Battle Into the Dark portrays a story told in three movements.
-Movement 1 "The Journey" begins with soldiers awakening into a bright new day as they travel towards a suitable army camp location.
-Movement 2 "Night Before Dawn" is told through its calming and peaceful front ensemble feature, that upon arrival, the army must sleep through the night and change their feelings of triumphant joy to hatred and aggression. As the sun sets and night rages on, the army must travel "Into the Dark", preparing for battle and its consequences.
-Movement 3 "The Battle" represents the climax of the story, encompassing anxious feelings of suspense as the final fate of the soldiers are at hand; they attack, take heavy losses, and launch a second wave. But do they win? That is for the listener to decide.
